Delivery approach

Working closely with NTW’s estates and clinical teams, Aptus developed a carefully sequenced programme to deliver the works efficiently and safely. Ongoing coordination with stakeholders ensured design and delivery decisions were informed by clinical priorities and operational requirements. Attention was given to layout, circulation and room adjacencies to support day-to-day use, with robust materials and detailing introduced to support long-term performance.

Outcome

The completed refurbishment provides modern, accessible clinical spaces that support specialist care and improve experience for both service users and staff. The introduction of the Deaf CAM room represents a significant regional investment, creating a specialist facility that addresses a recognised need within the North East.

Social value

Alongside project delivery, Aptus led targeted social value activity linked to the Benton House scheme. The team partnered with Trinity Academy in Newcastle, a school supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, to deliver a Green Construction Challenge focused on careers in construction.

Students worked in teams as their own ‘building companies’, taking on roles including site manager, quantity surveyor and sustainability lead. Through hands-on sessions, they explored sustainable construction, project planning and cost management, helping build confidence and awareness of career pathways within the built environment.

This activity forms part of Aptus’ wider commitment to using projects to create positive impact beyond the site boundary, supporting skills development and access to opportunity within local communities.
