Sage Gateshead has been shortlisted for an Insider Media Property Award in the ‘Fit Out/Refurbishment of the Year’ category.
Sage Gateshead was awarded £1.2 million in National Lottery funding through Arts Council England’s capital programme to enable the full project to go ahead, matched by £800,000 in individual and trust donations from across the North East and the country.
Welcoming over 500,000 visitors a year and providing a variety of venues and spaces to support the arts and music, the epochal venue had not been updated since its opening in 2004. The project to transform the concourse is the first stage of a capital programme to improve and widen Sage Gateshead’s offering to the public and entice more visitors to the venue.
The client’s vision to rejuvenate the concourse was supported by designers Howarth Litchfield Architects and Gemini Electrical who we worked closely with throughout the project to deliver upon the desired aesthetic whilst also adding value through recommending alternatives which greatly reduced costs to bring the project within the client’s budget.
Our team delivered the upgrade of the internal concourse areas of the Sage building, encompassing the communal areas of the concourse, the renovation of the restaurant, bars, café, box office, concourse kiosk, retail area and a co-working section.
“Adjusting to the ever-changing circumstances that this last year has presented, we were able to successfully deliver the project under budget for the client and we are thrilled that the project has been recognised with this shortlisting. We are thoroughly looking forward to the reopening of the venue in June.” Chris Price, Commercial Director at Aptus Fit Out.
Lindsay Tuck, COO of Sage Gateshead said: “On behalf of the rest of the team, I want to express how pleased we are with the quality of work Aptus Fit Out delivered on the transformation of the concourse at Sage Gateshead. They understood our design vision and budget, working well with our design team and quantity surveyor to find savings whilst retaining the aesthetic we chose for the project. I was personally impressed with the way they tackled the challenges which the pandemic has presented and kept the site safe for our employees and theirs. We are hugely excited to open our doors and welcome customers back into the new and improved Sage Gateshead.”
